Bartenders' Club of Iceland named IBA Association of the Year

Iceland's bartenders brought a prize home from Macau for the whole community: the International Bartenders Association named the Bartenders' Club of Iceland its Association of the Year.

The award was handed over on 23 October at the closing ceremony of the World Cocktail Championships in Macau, which this year coincided with the IBA's 75th anniversary. Vice-president Elna María Tómasdóttir went up on stage to accept it on behalf of the club.

Club president Teitur Riddermann Schiöth thanked the board, the members, the bartenders, the venues and the partners behind the club, and described the award as something they had achieved together.

Founded in 1963, the club organises the Icelandic Bartending Championship and Reykjavík Cocktail Week. Nine Icelanders made the trip: competitors Leó Snæfeld Pálsson and Pétur Hafsteinn Kolka Úlfsson, along with Elna María Tómasdóttir, Auður Gestsdóttir, Rósey Nótt Arnórsdóttir, Grétar Matthíasson, Gísli Stefán Gíslason, Jakub Banas and Árni Gunnarsson.

Pétur had already won his category at the Lotus Prestige Cup earlier in the week. In the world championship itself, Spain took the classic and coffee categories and Latvia won flair.
