Hovdenak named Sustainable Distillery of the Year at Icons of Gin
Hákon Freyr Hovdenak and Brynja Hjaltalín accepted the Sustainable Distillery award at the Icons of Gin 2024 in London, and Hákon was Highly Commended as Master Distiller.
The award was presented on 22 February 2024. The organisers highlighted a family-run business that uses renewable energy and naturally filtered local spring water in its production.
Hovdenak offsets the carbon from all its deliveries, has replaced plastic with paper and uses geothermal water in distillation. Hákon has also built much of the automation himself, including a bottling line and a system that traces production from raw material to pallet.
By then the distillery's products had been shipped to Mauritius, Madagascar, Norway and the United States, with the UK next in line.
