Two people, one distillery: Iðan visits Hovdenak
Iðan, the Icelandic vocational education centre, visited Hovdenak Distillery and heard how a hobby in a garage became one of the best-equipped distilleries in the country.
Hákon and his wife Brynja run the business themselves – recipes, bottle and packaging design and marketing included. They designed and built the equipment and fitted out the premises with the help of friends.
The story began about twelve years earlier in a garage in Hafnarfjörður, where Hákon distilled for himself. The first product to come out of it is today's Stuðlaberg Gin.
The spirits are distilled under vacuum at a lower temperature than usual – which, according to Hákon, is where the smoothness comes from.
