Stuðlaberg Gin takes silver at the IWSC in its very first competition

Barely on the market, Stuðlaberg Gin from Hovdenak Distillery in Hafnarfjörður won a silver medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in England.

The results were announced on 7 August 2020. The gin scored 92 points out of 100 – in a field of some 840 gins, and in the first competition it had ever entered.

Stuðlaberg is made in Hafnarfjörður from Icelandic water and carefully chosen botanicals. Hovdenak Distillery was founded in 2018, and owner Hákon Freyr pointed to the size of the competition as what made the medal special.

At the time the gin was sold in Vínbúðin, the duty-free store at Keflavík, through Drykkur ehf. and at restaurants, and had already been shipped to Denmark, Germany, the UK, China and Singapore, among other countries.
