Allinn (Alþýðuhúsið á Akureyri) (1952–2024) – Lost Tables

When fixed seats were installed in Akureyri's Samkomuhús in 1950 and dancing there became impossible, seven local trade unions bought a former laundry building on Gránufélagsgata and opened it as Alþýðuhúsið in March 1952. When fixed seats were installed in Akureyri's Samkomuhús in 1950 and dancing there became impossible, seven local trade unions bought a former laundry building on Gránufélagsgata and opened it as Alþýðuhúsið in March 1952. Universally called Allinn, it was for a decade the main place of entertainment for ordinary townspeople, hosting couples' evenings and formal annual dinners, while the 'better citizens' went to Hótel KEA. It later became a magnet for the young, and in June 1958 the Atlantic quartet of the brothers Ingimar and Finnur Eydal brought rock music to its floor. Allinn and Sjallinn were long the two best-known nightspots in town. The town bought the building in 2023, and it was torn down in February 2024.

Demolished in February 2024; the town of Akureyri owns the plot
