Astró (1995–2003) – Lost Tables

Astró opened on Austurstræti in 1995 and quickly became the club of the mid-nineties, the place where Reykjavík's VIP culture was born. Buying a big bottle of champagne earned you your name on a pillar inside, and visiting celebrities and Icelandic pop stars alike ended up on it.

House DJs such as Áki Pain, Svali, Margeir and Kiddi Bigfoot shaped the sound, and regulars remember 1996–1998 and the Kiddi Bigfoot years of 2000–2002 as its golden eras. The club ran under its own name until summer 2003, when Pravda took over the same building. Nostalgia ran deep enough that an 'Astró night' was staged at NASA in 2009.

The building became Pravda (2003), which burned in 2007; the rebuilt house now holds the Caruso restaurant.
