Bíóbarinn sat on the corner of Klapparstígur and Hverfisgata from 1991 to 1999 and, true to its name, was a bar for film lovers: the upper floor screened movies and was decorated with posters and cinema memorabilia. The basement was another world – a hot, cramped dance floor where DJs KGB and Kári ran club nights. Quarashi, Stjörnukisi and Botnleðja all played there, and the bar drew a mix of movie buffs, bohemians and music fans. At its peak in the mid-nineties it was the indie kids' living room, a forerunner of Sirkus just up Klapparstígur.
