Blásteinn was the neighbourhood restaurant and sports bar of Hraunbær in Árbær, and by 2012 it had been running for about twenty years. That year it grew by more than 400 m², adding a café, a dining room and a family-friendly room for watching sport.

That year it grew by more than 400 m², adding a café, a dining room and a family-friendly room for watching sport. A new operator relaunched it as a sports bar in 2018, next door to the Thai restaurant Rakang Thai in the same building, but both closed in October 2021 – the pandemic, a large space and rising costs were given as the reasons.
