Café Rosenberg (2004–2017) – Lost Tables

Café Rosenberg was opened in 2004 by Þórður 'Doddi' Pálmason and Auður Kristmannsdóttir at Lækjargata 2, reviving the name of the old Rósenberg cellar that had burned with Tunglið in 1998; the name was suggested by their friend, set designer Jón Þórisson. After the 2007 fire in the Austurstræti–Lækjargata block damaged the café, it moved to Klapparstígur 27, where it ran for about ten years as one of Reykjavík's best-loved listening rooms. Live music came first – in one year they put on more than 300 concerts – and audiences came to really listen, to the likes of Megas, Jonathan Richman, Sigríður Thorlacius and Svavar Knútur. The couple sold up in early 2017; the new owners kept it going for about five months before it closed that November, and the premises were turned into an Irish pub. Doddi and Auður later ran a small Rosenberg café on Vesturgata, and in 2026 they announced a full revival at the corner of Naustin and Tryggvagata.

A revived Café Rosenberg was reported in 2026 to be returning at Naustin / Tryggvagata
