Duck & Rose took over the old Café Paris corner on Austurstræti, facing Austurvöllur, in the summer of 2020. With roses on the walls, French and Italian influences on the menu and duck leg as its signature dish, it became one of the city centre's talked-about restaurants, with champagne and cocktails late into the night at weekends. In February 2026 the owners decided the formula no longer worked and closed Duck & Rose on Sunday 22 February. Five days later the same company reopened the space as Gamla Reykjavík, a warm, classic room with jazz, board games and Icelandic dishes, styled after old downtown Reykjavík.
Gamla Reykjavík, a cosy Icelandic bistro and bar run by the same company, opened on 27 February 2026.
