Duus-Hús, a pub in an old house on Fischersund in the Grjótaþorp quarter, opened in 1984; in 1986 a small music room was added, and Stuðmenn were the first band to play it – fifty people made it feel packed. For the next few years everyone from Ham to the Sugarcubes played there, and the Sugarcubes held the release party for their debut album Life's Too Good there in 1988. From spring 1987 to spring 1991 the jazz club Heiti potturinn ran Sunday jazz nights in the house – more than 200 of them – with visiting greats such as Kenny Drew and Charles McPherson. Its most famous night came in August 1990, when the Sugarcubes gave a private concert for French President François Mitterrand and culture minister Jack Lang during their official visit. By summer 1996 the rooms had been taken over by the club Tetriz; afterwards the house stood empty for a while before it was torn down and replaced by a new building.
