Kópavogur's community hall was built with the help of six local associations and opened in 1959. From then until 1984 its main hall served as the town's theatre and cinema. The building also hosted card nights, Rotary meetings and many concerts, and in its later years it was an early hub for Icelandic punk bands. The town library moved upstairs in 1964, and the hall was later turned into municipal offices and, in 2007, the town council chamber. Kópavogur sold Fannborg 2, 4 and 6 in 2017 for just over a billion krónur. When contractors began tearing it down in January 2026 without a demolition permit, the building inspector stopped the work the same day.

The building later held the town offices and council chamber. It was sold to developers in 2017, and demolition work began in January 2026.
