Frederiksen Ale House & Bird (2014–2025) – Lost Tables
The corner of Hafnarstræti and Naustin was long home to Amsterdam, a rough-edged rock dive with a secret basement smoking room and a dependable stage for young bands. In 2014 it was renovated into Frederiksen Ale House, a Danish-flavoured gastropub with a large tap list, brunch by day and live music
The corner of Hafnarstræti and Naustin was long home to Amsterdam, a rough-edged rock dive with a secret basement smoking room and a dependable stage for young bands. In 2014 it was renovated into Frederiksen Ale House, a Danish-flavoured gastropub with a large tap list, brunch by day and live music at weekends. Frederiksen ran for about ten years before roadworks and the pandemic took their toll, and it closed in June 2024. A group of chefs reopened it as Bird, a music bar serving grilled cheese named after death-metal bands, with concerts, DJs and a karaoke room. Bird served as an official Iceland Airwaves venue in November 2025, played an eight-band farewell show, and then closed.
Closed since November 2025.
