Not to be confused with the sixties' Glaumbær: Glaumbar was opened on Tryggvagata in 1990 by restaurateur Tómas Tómasson, fresh from the success of the Hard Rock Café, right next door to the old Gaukur á Stöng and just a year after beer was legalised – a lively room with frequent live music. In June 2010, after twenty years, it was relaunched as the live-music venue Risið by saxophonist Steinar Sigurðarson, but the Glaumbar name soon returned. It was one of the venues of the Reykjavík Live festival in 2012, and as late as February 2016 it was among the four bars allowed to screen the Super Bowl through the night. That autumn the building went up for sale and Glaumbar disappeared from the city's bar listings; the last operating company was declared bankrupt in January 2020.
