The cinema also imported films and rented them to other cinemas from 1952. After Árni died in 1956, his sons Níels and Kristinn ran the business until they sold the building to the town on 9 September 1988. It soon became a dance venue and shops, with Nillabar on the top floor, part of a Strandgata nightlife that also included Mánabar and Skálinn.
