Hótel Berg (c. 1931–1973) – Lost Tables
Tunga at Heimagata 4 was built in 1913 by Jóhann Sörensen and first housed Magnúsarbakarí, a bakery. Its upper floor became Hótel Berg, which is recorded by 1931 and for a long time was the only hotel in town, run by Jóna Jónsdóttir.

Its upper floor became Hótel Berg, which is recorded by 1931 and for a long time was the only hotel in town, run by Jóna Jónsdóttir. It was the islands' main guesthouse and a meeting place: the chess club met there in September 1936, and the founders of the local savings bank gathered there. Ingvald Andersen took over the hotel in 1968 and ran it until the eruption. In 1973 the house burned and was buried by lava from Eldfell, and photos show its owners watching it go.
