Húrra grew out of the rooms below Gaukurinn that had housed Bakkus and then Harlem, a dance club that opened in early 2013. As Húrra it became one of the city's most important small stages, with concerts, DJ nights, Airwaves shows and afterparties that spilled into Naustin at sunrise, and Grapevine named it the best new bar of 2014. In 2015 the property owners' plans to convert the block for tourism raised fears for its future. Húrra closed in autumn 2019, spent a spell as a sports bar, and was restored and reopened in 2021. In June 2023 it shut again because of rising rent and costs, prompting warnings that Reykjavík was becoming a dreadfully boring city; a last farewell night followed that November.

Closed since 2023; the building's owner had earlier floated plans to turn the block towards tourist-focused businesses.
