Keiluhöllin was built down in one of the old quarries on the north slope of Öskjuhlíð – the quarries that once supplied stone for Reykjavík harbour – and Iceland's first bowling club was founded in 1984 in connection with the hall. For three decades it was where Reykjavík went bowling, for birthdays, office nights and league play; around 2011 some 240,000 people bowled there a year. The owners announced in January 2015 that it would close on 1 March, leaving Egilshöll as the capital area's only bowling alley, and in 2016 the Mjölnir martial arts club took over the 3,000 m² building.
The Mjölnir martial arts club moved into the building in 2016
