Klúbburinn opened as a restaurant in 1960 in a three-storey office building with a basement at Borgartún 32, lavishly decorated with an oriental-style wine room and a lounge styled like a hunting lodge. It was run by Sigurbjörn Eiríksson, who also ran Glaumbær, and like Glaumbær it spread over several floors with bands such as Haukar and Júdas. After Glaumbær burned in December 1971, Klúbburinn became the most popular place in town for young people. Its reputation suffered in the mid-seventies, the business declined, and in the 1980s most of it was closed and what remained was renamed Sportklúbburinn. Shortly after midnight on 3 February 1992 fire broke out in the stairwell and badly damaged all three floors, ending the club for good.
Hótel Cabin now operates at Borgartún 32
