Krossinn in Ytri-Njarðvík began life as a military hospital, which is thought to be where the name came from, and was turned into the local community hall after the war. Run by the Njarðvík women's association and youth club, it was for some two decades the gathering place for the whole Suðurnes peninsula, with the local police chief recalling 18 dances in a single winter month, each packed with about 400 people. It was there that a new band called Hljómar rehearsed in 1963 and played its first public dance on 5 October that year, launching the Keflavík beat sound. Krossinn closed when the new hall Stapi opened in October 1965, and the building was demolished in 1979.

A basalt memorial stone with a copper plaque marks the site by Krossmóar
