In April 2015 the couple Aðalheiður Runólfsdóttir and Ólafur Guðlaugsson took over the Irish Pub on Reykjavíkurvegur and reopened it as Ölhúsið – Ölstofa Hafnarfjarðar. It became the town's neighbourhood local: nine beers on tap, football on twelve screens, competition pool tables, darts upstairs and down, live music every weekend, pub quizzes and bingo – open 363 days a year. The pub later moved to Flatahraun 5a, and in May 2025 demolition began on the old buildings at Reykjavíkurvegur 60–62, the start of the new Hraun vestur district.

Ölhúsið lives on at Flatahraun 5a; Reykjavíkurvegur 60–62 was torn down from May 2025 to make way for a 106-apartment block
