Organ opened formally on 3 August 2007 at Hafnarstræti 1–3, in a courtyard off Naustin, organised by Gylfi Blöndal and Inga Sólveig; its first concert featured Pornopop and The Way Down. Within a month former Iceland Airwaves manager Eldar Ástþórsson had brought Franz Ferdinand to play the little room. Shabby and much loved, it became a key stage for the Icelandic rock and indie scene, and its first-birthday festival in August 2008 brought together Mínus, Dikta, Jeff Who?, Jan Mayen, Bjartmar Guðlaugsson, Elín Ey and many more. In 2009 the premises were relaunched as the nightclub Batteríið, and when that club burned on 23 March 2010, the old Organ room went with it – which is why it is often remembered as the venue that burned.
The premises became the club Batteríið in 2009, which burned in March 2010
