Skelfiskmarkaðurinn (the Shellfish Market) opened in late August 2018 from the team behind Grillmarkaðurinn and Fiskmarkaðurinn, with chef Hrefna Rósa Sætran among the owners. It was billed as the first Reykjavík restaurant to put fresh shellfish at the centre of the menu, serving French-style fruits de mer platters and the first Icelandic oysters, grown in Húsavík. Three dining rooms seating 150 were done out in marble, marine blue and gold, and the Reykjavík Grapevine named it best newcomer of 2019. A norovirus outbreak in November 2018 hit bookings hard, sales fell quickly, and in March 2019 the owners announced the restaurant would close after only about seven months.
Closed; the owners concentrated on Grillmarkaðurinn and Fiskmarkaðurinn
