Skiphóll on Strandgata was a restaurant where dances and functions were held, and the jazz society Jazzvakning was founded there. Dance bands played there from the late 1960s – Hljómsveit Rúts Hannessonar began a months-long run in the autumn of 1969, and Guðmundur Ingólfsson led a band there in 1971 and a dinner jazz band in 1983. From 1975 the business was run by master chef Birgir Pálsson and Eygló Sigurliðadóttir, and it was later split into the nightclub Snekkjan and Skútan, with the kitchen and café. Snekkjan was sold in 1982 and Skútan moved to Dalshraun, yet bands were still advertised at Skiphóll in 1984–85.
The site later held the Hafnarfjörður town library (2002–2026)
