When the legendary Gaukur á Stöng closed in spring 2008, its big room on Tryggvagata reopened as Sódóma Reykjavík, sharing its name with the cult film Sódóma Reykjavík. Reached up a dark stairwell, it had a large floor, a covered balcony for smokers and a men's room famously decorated with portraits of bankers. Össur Hafþórsson took over early in 2009, at the height of the crisis, because the city lacked a mid-sized venue after Gaukurinn and Organ closed. Rock and metal bands played there constantly, and Grapevine named it the best new bar of 2010. The business was put up for sale in 2011, and the space returned to life under the old Gaukurinn name.
The rooms are Gaukurinn again.
