Iceland's first Irish-style pub opened on Friday 1 December 1995 at Hafnarstræti 4, where the antiquarian bookshop Bókavarðan used to be. Its three owners – an Icelander, an Irishman and a Norwegian, all members of the Round Table – shipped in fittings from Ireland, among them church doors said to be up to 400 years old, and Irish carpenters to install them. There was no dance floor and no slot machines; instead there was a house beer brewed by Ölgerðin and, for the first time in Iceland, Guinness on tap, with an Irish band flown in for the opening. For years the Dubliner was a fixture for troubadours and live music most nights of the week, until the pub moved round the corner to Naustin, where it still operates.

The Dubliner still pours at Naustin 1–3; Hafnarstræti 4 later housed the bars Dolly and Curious and, since 2022, the Mexican restaurant Tres Locos
