Thorvaldsen was one of the stylish bistro-bars on Austurstræti in the 2000s. By day it was a restaurant with a Japanese-inspired, seafood-heavy menu and outdoor seating facing the street, with sushi Sundays and fusion evenings with music.
Thorvaldsen was one of the stylish bistro-bars on Austurstræti in the 2000s. By day it was a restaurant with a Japanese-inspired, seafood-heavy menu and outdoor seating facing the street, with sushi Sundays and fusion evenings with music. Its minimalist interior had deep sofas and ambient music, and some regulars felt that by night it was more nightclub than bistro. The Grapevine described it in 2005 as a typical, high-quality Reykjavík bistro-bar. By late 2014 Thorvaldsen was gone and American Bar was being fitted out in its place.
American Bar opened in the space in early 2015.
